Did NAnA ETS prove effective in advancing your career, and if so, in what ways did it contribute?2024-11-04T11:56:23+00:00

I had the opportunity to work with NAnA ETS in a somewhat unlucky moment in my life: I had lost my PhD position due to COVID-19 two months before I could start, which made me officially unemployed. Around that time, NAnA provided me with a one-year scholarship and the chance to pursue a challenging research project, during which I could further my lab skills, encounter interesting techniques and approaches, and learn how to tackle complex problems in research. Most importantly, with NAnA I could appreciate how closely my career can reflect in the life of people and those that surround them, which added a precious human experience to my job.

 I recently had the pleasure of being a speaker at CRS2024, one of the main global conferences in my field. It was a big surprise to see my abstract be selected for a talk; this allowed me to share my research with great minds and experienced researchers as well as peers, which led me to extremely interesting and pleasant conversations.

With patience, tenacity and some sense of humor! While the pace of discoveries in this field is breathtaking, there is still a lot that we don’t know, which makes progress hiccup every now and then. Still, I believe it is important to first evaluate mentally as many factors could influence your experiments, then isolating the ones that are actually relevant and plan solutions in advance, then finally crunching out the wet work while trusting yourself.
What is your ongoing project and what is the scientific question?2024-11-04T12:02:35+00:00

 Can we prevent metastases? I am currently working on an active targeting delivery strategy for siRNAs in breast cancer. To this purpose, we design and develop nanoparticles loaded with siRNA for therapeutically relevant targets, then evaluate them in our novel in vitro models and in vivo.

 I am a PhD student at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität, in Munich, Germany. I mostly work on developing nanosized formulations for therapeutic RNAs, which involves polymer synthesis, physico-chemical characterization of polymers and nanocarriers, and a lot of cell culture work.
