WHAT TO SEE

The Veiled Christ if you haven’t seen it yet. It is a good idea to buy tickets first. You will be in the heart of the historic centre of Naples, stroll down Piazza San Domenico and there you can get coffee at Scaturchio’s with sfogliatella, babà or the typical chocolate ministerial. The nearby Corso Umberto has many shops with unbeatable prices.
The church in Piazza del Gesù is an important and cheerful example of Baroque and opposite is the Cloister of Santa Chiara with its famous majolica tiles. Very interesting in Via San Gregorio Armeno – the street of the shepherds – is the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore, where a visit allows you to see the different layers of Naples from the early Christian foundations to the present day.
Heading up Via Toledo to Piazza Monteoliveto is Vasari’s Secretariat all in carved wood inside the Church of Sant’Anna dei Lombardi where beautiful marbles are also housed. On Via Toledo not far away is Palazzo Zevallos-Stigliano among the galleries of Italy owned by the Intesa San Paolo Group, a small museum very rich in works. gallerieditalia.com/en/napoli/#
For those with more time, the National Archaeological Museum in Piazza Museo 19 is worth a day in itself for Pompeian artefacts and much more.
N.B. Remember not to wear Rolexes and jewellery for carefree walking!

SHOPPING

For elegant shopping in the area there is Via Chiaia (Tramontano for bags) Piazza dei Martiri (Grandi Firme, Ferragamo and Armani) Via Calabritto and Via dei Mille, with Via Filangieri and if you want you can have a coffee at Gran Caffè La Caffettiera. If you want, wander around the super elegant alleys of Via Bausan, Via delle Cavallerizze in Chiaia or Vicoletto Belle Donne with its fancy little shops. An elegant street market nearby is in Via Vittorio Imbriani, every morning.
